 ALGONQUIN

crown royal, nolly, pineapple

This drink was created at the Algonquin Hotel in the 1930s, and it’s a real find that balances the sweetness of the pineapple juice nicely. A great rye drink for people who like martinis.

AVIATION

aviation gin, maraschino, crème de violette

Appropriately named around the violet coloration that mimics the sky.  Designed by a German bartender before prohibition, in a time when aviation was taking flight as a popular sport.

FRENCH 75

finsbury gin, lemon, sugar, sparkling wine

Dating back to World War 1 when an early form was created in 1915 at the New York Bar in Paris. This fierce combination was said to have such a kick that it felt like being shelled with the powerful French 75mm Field Gun.

COLONY

finsbury gin, pink grapefruit, maraschino

New York’s Colony was a speakeasy in the 1920s, and they created this gin cocktail. It gained popularity during prohition using grapefruit and stone fruits to mask the Gin flavour.

SIDECAR

remy VSOP, Orange liqueur, lemon

Sidecar is a classic sour drink. Sours were quite popular during the golden age of cocktails in the early 1900’s. 

Lots of debates circulate about where the recipe originated. Moral of the story, someone road up to someone’s bar in a sidecar and ordered that drink regularly. We don’t care who did it, it’s just such a cool name for a cool drink.

MARY PICKFORD

CORPSE REVIVER #2

gunpowder gin, lillet blanc, triple sec, lemon, absinthe

As the name suggests, this one will bring you back from the dead. The ultimate hangover cure dating back to the 1930’s… A bit like mammas home remedy for the late-night shaker in all of us.

MARTINEZ

four pillar gin, sweet vermouth, maraschino, angostura bitters

A predecessor to the classic Gin Martini the inclusion of maraschino liqueur brings a hint of sweetness over dry. Very smooth, perfect any time of day.

GIN RICKEY

finsbury gin, lime, club soda 

Originally created with bourbon at Shoomaker’s bar (Washington D.C) by bartender George A. Williamson in the 1880s, reportedly in collaboration with Democratic lobbyist Colonel Joe Rickey, it became a worldwide sensation when mixed with Gin a decade later.

SOUTHSIDE FIZZ

bombay 8, lime, mint, simple syrup

Originated in NYC’s 21 Club, a hot meeting spot during prohibition. A longer version over ice was allegedly a favourite of the Southside Mobsters of Chicago.

MILLIONAIRE

bookies sloe gin, havana club, apricot brandy, grenadine, lime 

Little is known about this Prohibition-era cocktail except that it was a popular name for cocktails of that time. Doesn’t it sound luxurious? You’ll find a few variations of this one, give ours a go and let us know what you think.

CLOVER CLUB

archie rose gin, lemon, raspberry , egg white

The Clover Club is a cocktail created before prohibition. The cocktail was named after a men’s club that dates back to 1882. I find that shocking given that it’s so pretty, it’s definitely a lady’s drink.

CHARLIE CHAPLIN

bookies sloe gin, apricot brandy, lime

Named in honour of Charlie Chaplin (1889–1977). The famous comedic actor and filmmaker was best known for his silent films of the 1920s through the 1940s. For the sweet tooth.

BETWEEN THE SHEETS

remy VSOP, grand marnier, mount gay silver, lemon

Add a little rum to the Sidecar and you get this provocatively named classic. Sexy name for a sexy drink.

LAST WORD

This little palate cleanser is rich and pungent, best suited to those who like a sharp kick to a drink.  

The Last Word is a Prohibition-era cocktail that got its beginnings in the Detroit Athletic Club’s bar in the early 1920s.

AVENUE

evans bourbon, calvados, passionfruit, grenadine, orange blossom

It was first published in 1937 in the Café Royal Cocktail book, which was the unofficial recipe guide of the UK Bartender’s Guild. In 1937, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco opened to vehicular traffic.

WARD 8

woodford rye whiskey, lemon, orange, grenadine

Ward 8 is a district in Boston. This cocktail was created in 1898 to honour the election of Martin Lamasery, a powerful Massachusetts political figure. We use a quality Rye unlike those available during prohibition. 

DUTCH COURAGE

bols genever, mof chartreuse, lemon, sugar, dash Angostura bitter

Using Bols Genever, one of the original Genevers established in 1575 from Holland. Dutch Courage comes from the Anglo-Dutch war. The English soldiers noted the bravery that the Dutch soldiers gained from drinking Genever, hence “Dutch Courage” gained from drinking alcohol. NB - Gin is an English adaptation of Genever.


APHRODISIAC
